Abstract

In order to determine the significance of biotite in the formation of magma type deposits, biotite in

Fanshan phosphate deposit is studied by combining petrography with geochemistry. According to the water-rich characteristics, biotites from both Fanshan complex and Fe--P ore body are selected for testing. Some biotites show lower degree of alteration and metasomatism in petrography. The chemical compositions show high contents of Al and low Ti,indicating hydrothermal genesis for the deposit. Moreover, the ratio of Al2O3 /TiO2 is 4. 52 > 3. 5,<< 7,with inhomogeneous Fe2 + / ( Fe2 + + Mg2 + ) ,indicating charactcristics of hydrothermal deposit. Based on previous research,it can be inferred that magmatic biotites and hydrothermal biotites coexist in Fanshan complex.Geochemical analysis indicates that the ratio of Fe2 + / ( Fe2 + + Mg2 + ) in biotite ranges from 0. 37 to 0. 69,and the total aluminum ( TAl) varies from 2. 594 to 3. 129. Biotite compositional records show high oxygen fugacity and temperature in the magma-fluid transforming system. In addition, biotite is rich in iron which indicates the genesis of iron ore body. Integrating all results,it is demonstrated that the biotites of Fanshan phosphate deposit are characterized by high temperature, high oxygen fugacity and high volatility, which is the reason that Fe--P ore body occur in Fanshan complex.
