Abstract

Many ophiolites are exposed in the Sabah,Malaysia, represented by the KET and Chert - Spilite( Cs) formations. This paper takes the sandstone of Cs Formation in Sabah as the research object and analyzes the U - Pb dating of detrital zircon. The age spectrum of zircons of KDS - Cs - 1 can be divided into four groups: 190~ 68 Ma ( 22%) ,279 ~ 213 Ma ( 18%) ,627 ~ 315 Ma ( 22%) and 2 788 ~ 976 Ma ( 37%) ,with the age peaks at 117 Ma,234 Ma,415 Ma and 1 877 Ma,respectively. The age spectrum of zircons of BLR - Cs - 1 can be divided into four groups: 196 ~ 90 Ma ( 20%) ,350 ~ 212 Ma ( 19%) ,770 ~ 404 Ma ( 12%) and 423 ~ 873 Ma( 48%) ,with the age peaks at 104 Ma,249 Ma,509 Ma and 1 848 Ma,respectively. The age map of detrital zircons

from the Cs Formation shows that the zircons are mainly Precambrian zircons, including one Paleoarchean ( 3 423 Ma) zircon. By comparing and analyzing the tectonic evolution, geological characteristics and age comparisons of detrital zircons around Sabah,it is inferred that the provenances of the Cs Formation sandstone are mainly the Cathaysia - Northern South China Sea Block,Nansha Block and Indochina Block.
