Regional geology and tectonic evolution characteristics of Choma-Kalomo block, central-southern Africa

Abstract

Choma-Kalomo block mainly consists of metamorphic sedimentary clastic rocks, which were intruded by Mesoproterozoic granitic Choma-Kalomo batholiths. Large number of U-Pb isotopic dating results indicate that the metamorphic sedimentary rocks may have been deposited after (1 861±5)Ma, while the Choma-Kalomo batholith are Mesoproterozoic complex intrusions formed between 1 352 Ma and 1 174 Ma. Through the analysis of existing data, the authors achieve new understandings on the tectonic evolution history and geological background of the Choma-Kalomo block. So far no large scale deposit has been discovered in Choma-Kalomo block, but mineral information indicates great metallogenic potential in Sn (Ta, Nb, Li, Be).
