Abstract

In order to further understand the oil shale characteristics of Upper Cretaceous Qingshankou Forma- tion in southeastern uplifted area,Songliao Basin, the detailed study of cores and testing for Well Zengshen 3 have been carry out. The results show that there are five oil shale layers developed in this well and deposited in the semi- deep or deep lake paleoenviroments. The maximal thickness is five meters. The oil content ranges from 3. 50% to 7. 34%,averaging of 4. 73%. The calorific and ash contents vary from 1 928. 68 J/g to 4 537. 08 J/g and 82. 65% to 88. 82%,averaging of 2 691. 42 J/g and 85. 63%,respectively. Total sulfur content is between 0. 59% and 4. 08%,with 1. 40% in average. All above analytical results suggest that the oil shale in the studied area has the characteristics of high- ash content,low- calorie and low sulfur content, showing as the medium- low quality oil shale. In addition, the positive correlation exists in oil content with calorific value and with TOC,whereas the neg- ative correlation exists between oil content with ash content. These indicators can be used as the good surrogate markers of oil yield. The well logging curve characteristics show that the oil shale layers has the characteristics of high acoustic travel time, high resistivity and low density characteristics compared with those of the mudstone lay- ers, which can be act as supplementary symbol to identify oil shale. With the analysis of rock pyrolysis parameters, the organic matter types of the oil shale is mainly type Ⅰ,and type Ⅱ secondly. The organic matter maturity in oil shale is immature- low mature.
