Abstract

The volcanic rocks in Baiyingaolao Formation of Taerqi area are composed of rhyolitelithic crystal tuff and rhyolitic lithic crystal tuffolava The geochemical study suggests that the rocks are rich in Al 2 O 3 (Al 2 O 3 = 13. 37% 15. 79%) and alkalis (Na 2 O + K 2 O =6. 10% 8. 56%)while poor in magnesium and calcium All samples are characterized by relatively high total EE contents HEE and LEE have distinct fractionation (La/ Yb) N =3. 72 17. 9while the HEE has an obvious sag The trace element are characterized evidently by en- richment of LILEs (KbBa and LEE)strong depletion of Sr and HFSEs (NbTaTi) Combining with the previous studieswe suggest that the volcanic rocks in Baiyingaolao Formation from Taerqi area were originated from partial melting of mafic lower crustal materials and the rocks have the characteristics of A- type rhyolite impl- ying they were formed in an extensional settingwhich may be caused by the closure of Mongol- - Okhotsk Ocean
