Mesozoic tectonic and geographic evolution in the areas around the South China Sea

Abstract��

The sketches of Mesozoic tectonics and geography in the areas around the South China Sea are propased according to the systematically study on lithofacies��tectonics and palaeogeography��including the six stages from of T3 to K2 �� It shows the forming time and activity characteristics of the main suture belts and their influence or control on the palaeogeography in Mesozoic�� The basin types��stratem of Mesozoic and that the palaeographic environment were influenced and controled by the Paleotethys closing and the circum pacific subduction�� Although the series of faults of F6 were response to the opening of the South China Sea��the Paleo-Pacific tectonic belt was the main factor of the forming of the basins in the Kalimantan��Palawan��Chaoshan depression and Taiwan in the Mesozoic�� The evolution of Mesozoic tectonic palaeogeograpy in this area is also discussed�� The strat facies of the studied areas were changed from marine to continental facies in the time from Early to Late Jurassic�� The palaeogeographic framework of each epoch shows the land in the north and the sea in the south from Late Triassic to Late Crataceous��
