Abstract

Based on the remote sensing images ( MSSETMCBERS) for three periodsthe authors investigate the urban buildi-up areaand study the expansion in three provinces of Northeast China in the past 30 years and vegetation coveragecombining with the NDVI data The results showed that the urban build-up area continue to increase in 1976-2000 and 2000-2007the annual mean expansion rate increased from 5. 10% to 6. 32%the notable area of expanding strength mainly distributed in Harbin-Dalian traffic economic belt; the vegetation coverage in the east was better than the west within the scope of the study areasand NDVI mean raised with the increase of urban distance
