 First discovery of Phoenicopsis (Windwardia) ningxiaensis sp. nov. in Yanchi area

Abstract

 Abundant compressions of Czekanowskialean leaves were collected from the Middle Jurassic Yan'an Formation in the borehole in Yanchi area, Ningxia, western China. Phoenicopsis (Windwardia) ningxiaensis sp. nov. He is established based on its leaf morphology and epidermal characters. The new species is characterized by sparse veins with only 2 - 4 veins per leaf, straight epidermal cell wall, single filed stomata on upper epidermis and 3 or 4 files stomata on lower epidermis in each stomatal zone, no papillae on both upper and lower ordinary epi? dermis, and subsidiary cells with strong papillae. These epidermal characteristics indicate the warm and humid cli? mate during Middle Jurassic time.
