Abstract

Abundantsporesand po11en havebeen discovered from theCarboniferous-Permian stratain many exp1oration we11coresfrom Linxingarea, eastern margin ofOrdosBasin.Detai1ed corre1ation oftheassemb1ages with thoseon North Chinacraton wasmadein ordertosetbiostratigraphiccritariafortheexp1oration and deve1op- mentofcoa1-bed methanein thisarea.Foursporopo11en assemb1ageswererecognized and named in ascendingor-der: Cyclogranisporites-Denosporites-Florinitesassemb1age( l) from theTaiyuan Formation, Sinulatisporites-Gu- lisporites-Punctatisporitesassemb1age( II) from theShanxiFormation, Punctatisporite-Limitisporites-Punctato- sporitesassemb1age( III ) from theLowerShiheziFormation, and Vitreisporites-Pteruchipollenites-Vittatina assem- b1age( N) fromtheUpperShiheziFormation.Thisa1soprovidesnewpa1yno1ogica1dataforreconstructingtheCar- boniferousand Permian pa1eovegetation and pa1eoc1imatein theNorth Chinacraton.Thereconstructed pa1eoc1i-matesshowthatthec1imateduringthedeposition ofTaiyuan and Shanxiformationsareofawarmand humid tropi- ca1-subtropica1c1imate, whi1ethatof1owerShiheziFormation isofas1ight1yarid c1imate, and fina11ythatofupper ShiheziFormation isan arid c1imate.
