Abstract

Takingalake(shortforLakeA)innorthernChinaasanexample,theauthorsstudiedtheecolog icalriskassessmentofnitrogenandphosphoruspollutionandheavymetalsinsediment,discussedthecorrelationof variousevaluationmethodsandanalyzedtheriskofwatereutrophicationcausedbythemigrationofnitrogenand phosphorusfromsedimenttooverlyingwater.TensedimentmonitoringpointsinthecenterofLakeAwereselected toanalyzethecontentsoftotalnitrogen,totalphosphorus,andheavymetals(Pb,Cr,As,Cd,andNi).Theorganicindexmethodwasusedtoevaluatethetotalnitrogenpollution,andthesinglefactorindexmethodwasusedto evaluatethetotalphosphoruspollution.Thepotentialecologicalriskofheavymetalswasevaluatedcomprehensively bySEM/AVSratio,geoaccumulationindexandpotentialecologicalriskindex.Theresultsshowthattheorganic nitrogenindexofthe10sedimentmonitoringpointsrangesfrom00037to01116,withanaveragevalueof 00674.Thedegreeoftotalnitrogenpollutionismedium.Thetotalphosphoruspollutionindexisbetween086 and164,withanaverageof124,thepollutionleveloftotalphosphorusismoderatepollution.Thesedimentare richinnitrogenandphosphorus,whichcausesagreatriskofwatereutrophication.Theresearchresultsshowthat theSEM/AVSvaluesarealllessthan1,thegeoaccumulationindexvaluesarealllessthan0,andthepotential ecologicalriskindexvaluesarealllessthan150.TheSEM/AVSratiomethodandgeoaccumulationindexmethod showthatthereisnoheavymetalpollution.Thepotentialecologicalriskindexmethodshowsthatheavymetalsof thisregionareinthelowestlevelofpotentialecologicalrisk.
