Early Paleozoic northward subduction records of Paleo-Asian Ocean: zircon U-Pb geochronological and geochemical evidence from Early Silurian island-arc volcanic rocks in central Jilin Province

Abstract

InordertorestricttheregionaltectonicevolutionofthecentralpartofJilinProvince,theauthors reportLAICPMSzirconUPbdatingandlithogeochemistryofQingfengvolcanicrocks.ZirconUPbdatingresultsshowthatQingfengvolcanicrockswereformedinLateEarlySilurian(434±23Ma).Thepetrologicaland geochemicalstudiesofvolcanicrocksshowthattherockassemblagesaremadeupofandesiteandrhyolite.The SiO2contentsare592% ~625% and7491% ~7553%,respectively,whichhasthecharacteristicsofbimodal volcanicrocks.TheQingfengvolcanicrockshaveAl2O3 (1283% ~1732%),Na2O (184% ~375%),K2O (148% ~476%),lowMgO (018% ~353%),CaO (073% ~578%),A/CNK (091~113) andTiO2 (<2%).Inaddition,theRittmannindex(σ)islessthan33.Thetraceelementsareenrichedin largeionlithophileelements(Rb,Th,U,K)andlightrareearthelements(LREE),however,depletedinhigh fieldstrengthelements(Ta,Nb,Ti).Theybelongtometaluminoustoperaluminous,mediumtohighKcalcalkaline,intermediateacidvolcanicrockswithgeochemicalcharacteristicsofislandarcvolcanicrocks.Combinedwith regionalgeologicaldata,theauthorsconsiderthatthesoutheastmarginoftheSongnenblockshouldbeinamature islandarctectonicenvironmentinEarlySilurian,andthegenerationofQingfengvolcanicrocksarerelatedtothe extensionalstageduringtheevolutionoftheislandarc.
