Geochronology of “Precambrian” meta-sedimentary rocks in Changning-Menglian tectonic belt and its geological significanc

Abstract

ThePrecambrianmetasedimentaryrockseries,whichwerewidelyexposedintheChangningMengliantectonicbeltinwesternYunnan,controversyontheagesoftheserocksseriouslyrestrictstheunderstandingoftheTethysoceanevolution.Inthispaper,theabovementionedmetasedimentaryrockserieshasbeentested andanalyzedbydetritalzircon.TheresultsshowthattheyoungestpeakagesofdetritalzirconsoftheLancang Group,DamenglongGroup,ChongshanGroup,MengtongGroupandXimengGroupincludedinthemetasedimentaryrockseriesare516Ma,444Ma,440Ma,594Ma,504Ma,respectively.Associatedwiththepreviouschronologicaldataofthevolcanicinterlayersineachgroupandmagmaticintrusionswithintheseries,andtheangularunconformitybetweentheLatePaleozoicsequenceandtheseries,thispapersuggeststhattheprotolithofthe PrecambrianmetasedimentaryrocksaredepositedintheEarlyPaleozoic,andtheirprovenancesarederivedfromdifferentblocksinwesternYunnan,ie.theLancangGroup,MengtongGroupandXimengGrouparefromtheBaoshanBlock.theDamenglongGroupandChongshanGrouparefromtheSimaoBlock.AlongwiththesubductionandextinctionoftheprotoTethysOcean,theysufferedmetamorphoseddeformedtransformation.Consequently,theauthorssupposethatthelateEarlyPaleozoicorogenyisalsoexsitedinwesternYunnanwhichisrelatedtothe closureoftheprotoTethysOcean
